COSTAATT Student Mental Health Symposium Recap 2023

On June 14, 2023, our team attended COSTAATT’s Mini-Symposium on Student Mental Health, hosted in collaboration with Morgan State University in the US and the University of Westminster in the UK. The event brought together students, lecturers, and mental health professionals to talk about the state of student wellness and explore real solutions that can actually help young people today.
Our Co-Founder and COO, Shanice Dick, was invited to present Uplift as one of the featured solutions. She gave a live demo of the app, walked through how anonymous peer support works, and shared why safe digital spaces matter for students who don’t always have someone to talk to in real life.
Throughout the day, our team got to speak with panelists, student leaders, and faculty members who are working on improving mental health support both inside and outside the classroom. It was clear that the need for judgment-free, accessible mental health tools is growing, and we were glad to be part of the conversation.
The symposium didn’t just highlight the challenges students face, it opened up a space for collaboration. Being able to show Uplift in that kind of environment reminded us why we built it in the first place, and how much more we can do when technology and community work together.
Events like this keep us grounded, keep us learning, and push us to keep improving what we’re building.
